Mark Grebe has released the latest version and build of Atari800MacX. This release fixes NetSIO (aka FujiNet) support and works properly with FujiNet-PC. FujiNet-PC is the software version of FujiNet Firmware for POSIX systems (that is, desktop systems not ESP32 based systems). FN-PC builds for your Macintosh, Linux or sometimes Windows desktop and allows retro emulators to connect to and use the FN-PC similar to a physical FujiNet connected to your real retro computer.
Note: Initially I confused Mark Grebe (primary maintainer of Atari800X) and Paulo Garcia (primary developer of FujiSan). This has been corrected with input from Paulo. See more below when I break down and list all the choices for emulation in 2025.
You can download this build at the GH release page for the project.
Note: F2 is OPTION on this version. You need it to boot….
Note: Fujinet-PC itself is not included with this release! So download it here:

The history of the atari800 emulator is a long one and many things have happened over the years that have lead up to this point where we can enjoy the full robust emulation today on a modern ARM Mac with a Fujinet on the network.
Key Contributors and Architectural Roles in Atari Emulation Development
- David Firth, Original Developer – Atari800 Core, Established the foundational emulator code.
- Petr Stehlik, Core Maintainer – Atari800 Core, Led core development and source distribution (2002).
- Jacek Poplawski Contributor, SDL Port, Provided the general SDL port utilized as the initial base for MacX.
- Mark Grebe, Original Developer – Atari800MacX (Mac OS X), Architected the full native Cocoa UI port and drove development (2003) Incorporated the netSIO improvements to use Fujinet-PC.
- Daniel Noguerol Contributor, R: Driver, Developed and ported versions of the R: driver for serial/network I/O.
- Paulo Garcia, Creator – Fujisan – a new take on Modern Macintosh UI and updates for Metal (2025).
Open Source Atari Emulators
There are three primary choices in the open-source arena. They all build off atari800. Atari800MacX adds GUI elements for Macintosh systems, and Fujisan refines this in 2025 for a more modern take on the UI elements and improvements in audio emulation for the Atari.
Fujisan
- https://github.com/pedgarcia/fujisan
- A modern frontend for the Atari800 emulator, providing a native desktop experience with full keyboard support, machine configuration, and authentic Atari behavior.
Atari800MacX
- https://github.com/atarimacosx/Atari800MacX
- Atari800MacX is the Macintosh OS X Port of David Firth’s Fantastic Atari 800 Emulator. I have ported the SDL version of the Atari800 emulator to Mac OS X, and added a full native Cocoa interface, including Preferences, Menus, File Associations, Help and more.
atari800
- https://github.com/atari800/atari800
- This is a free and portable Atari 8-bit computer and 5200 console emulator, originally written by David Firth and now developed by the Atari800 Development Team
Using FujiNet-PC
When using Atari800MacX there are some new menu choices now that enable and disable NetSIO.
-
Ensure “Limit to Normal Speed” is chosen in Control Menu
-
Ensure “Enable NetSIO” is chosen in Control Menu

Hey Andy,
I just realized there is a confusion here. I can’t take the credit for this last release. I did start changing Atari800MacX to support Fujinet, and I accomplished that with an “unofficial” version that I put up for people to test.
Later on, Mark Grebe, the main maintainer of Atari800MacX decided to take a look and worked to properly add the support to the official version. Kudos should go to Mark about this specific release. I guess I just stirred the pot to get things moving 🙂
Cheers
Paulo
Later on,
